Djangoary at Ashland Coffee and TeaDjango Reinhardt was a French jazz musician who became a important figure in "gypsy jazz". To be honest, before I was asked to document this show, I had no idea who he was. Try googling Django these days and see what pops up on the first page. Not this guy. But a bit more searching found some pretty sweet images of this dapper frenchman with a Clark Gable mustache. I immediately was intrigued. The RVA band, Gypsy Roots, invited me to shoot their annual tribute show at Ashland Coffee and Tea and so I got to experience first hand what this gypsy jazz was all about. AC&T is a great place for live music. Being a listening room, the audience has the complete attention of the performers. From a photographer's point of view, it means that no matter what, I am always in the way. I pretty much spent all my shooting from the floor in front of the stage as there was only one little area available to me. Super fun night though and full of wonderfully talented musicians. Please press play and enjoy the music and check out some photos from a night of Djangoary!
